Embedded / DSP Software Design Engineer, Broadcast TV

The Ensigma product group has developed a world-leading multi-standard programmable communications engine, known as the RPU (Radio Processing Unit). The Ensigma RPU is a software-configurable hardware core, consisting of a number of proprietary processing engines along with custom hardware acceleration, capable of performing physical layer processing for both broadcast and connectivity standards (including digital TV, digital radio, WiFi and Bluetooth).

The Ensigma TV team produces software for the RPU, implementing a wide range of digital TV demodulators for terrestrial, satellite and cable TV receivers and set-top boxes. Our customers produce chips that have shipped in millions of such products world-wide. We are looking for an engineer to complement our existing team, developing real-time embedded DSP code and associated control code / hardware drivers.  The systems we develop are a mix of conventional code developed in C, and specialised assembler code for our proprietary hardware.

You will:

  • Write embedded C code to run under real-time constraints within our range of TV demodulators.
  • Validate your code, integrate it into complex systems and diagnose problems in the operation of those systems.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of our demodulation algorithms and their implementation.
  • Develop skills in programming our proprietary processors which include a VLIW (Very Long Instruction Word) processing engine and a highly multi-threaded programmable DMA controller.
  • Work closely with colleagues and with your team leader to enhance the quality and capabilities of our products.

Abilities make possibilities

Committed to making your customers, stakeholders and colleagues successful, you’re an excellent communicator, listener and collaborator who builds trusted partnerships by delivering what you say, when you say. You’re curious, solutions-orientated, and a world class problem solver who constantly seeks opportunities to innovate and achieve the best possible outcome to the highest imaginable standard.

You have:

  • A good honours degree in a related discipline such as Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or Communications Engineering.
  • Relevant experience creating and debugging embedded real-time software in a professional development environment.
  • Good knowledge of Digital Signal Processing.
  • Experience with high-level languages such as Matlab and Python for modelling and scripting.

You might also have:

  • Knowledge of digital communications protocols such as digital TV, digital radio, WiFi, Bluetooth, LTE.
  • Interest in, and experience of, algorithm development for digital communications systems.
  • Experience with configuration / source code management systems such as Perforce.
  • Knowledge of CPU or DSP hardware.
  • Team leadership experience.

Invent the future

The people at Imagination define the technology shaping our world.
