The Role

As Hardware Engineering Manager at Imagination Technologies you will work with a team of engineers, hardware designers, architects and the VP of Video Engineering to deliver the highest quality products to market.


Imagination's PowerVR technology is the world leader in mobile graphics and video. This is a chance to work on the next generation of computer vision cores for applications such as automotive, mobile phones, VR/AR, and surveillance devices.


Working as an Engineering Manager you will have some or all of the following responsibilities:


Leadership and Management

  • Manage & mentor a team of greater than 10 engineers, with management hierarchy in place
  • Motivating & guiding the team to achieve higher efficiency and throughput
  • Deal with any performance issues & provide constructive feedback
  • Career and personal development including managing appraisals
  • Upskilling hardware team members
  • Manage the team to achieve objectives & facilitate flow of ideas
  • Prioritise and delegate tasks and responsibilities to team
  • Empathetic to understand the mood and problems within the team

Project Management

  • Project planning for complex large scale hardware IP
  • Drive the project forward by scheduling and load balancing the team
  • Review project dates and militate against issues and risks
  • Agree on deliverables and ownership of them

Business Development

  • Understand the needs of the business, customers and markets
  • Support and provide feedback on future projects to the Research team

Customer interaction

  • Respond to Sales & Marketing queries
  • Deal with post sale customer issues (directly or through Customer Engineering)
  • Own customer facing HW IP Releases and Documentation


  • Involved in bringing all of the teams together to create the HW IP
  • Interact and communicate with other teams involved in the program


  • Assist with technical problems when necessary
  • Carry out code reviews & review HW specs
  • Involvement in the architecture – design and review
  • Come up with requirements for projects (FPGAs, emulators, etc.)
  • Contribute to the evolution of company standard processes and procedures


  • Management of recruitment and future planning
  • Work with recruitment team to develop recruitment specs and strategies

Required Skills


  • Good HW design, RTL design and implementation, capabilities
  • Understanding ASIC design flow & leading EDA tools
  • Analytical (can understand the details of the requirements)
  • Good understanding of the semi-conductor IP business
  • Strong complex problem solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to communicate hard technical material in a clear and concise way
  • Understanding of HW interfaces with SW .e.g. understanding of device driver basics

Project Management

  • Experience with project planning methodologies and tools for large scale projects
  • Coordinate inter-team dependencies in a project
  • Ability to breakdown work into lots of small tasks
  • Ability to identify risks and manage them
  • Time and task management

Leadership and Management

  • Experience with people management – a team greater than 5
  • Good attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Innovative and proactive attitude
  • Methodical & reasoned approach to work

Excellent written and oral communication

Desired Skills

  • Good understanding of designing for low/high power performance
  • Knowledge of either Verilog or VHDL
  • Experience with clarity or agile
  • Experience in Vison
